  12. This document contains information that is important, and information
  13. that is too new to have been incorporated in the Userís Manual.

  18.     supported by PenTools.

  22.     Macintosh or PC platforms.

  44. WACOM TABLETS SUPPORTED
  45.  
  46. Before you can access PenTools, a professional WACOM tablet (such as
  47. ArtPad, ArtZ, SD, or UD series) must be installed on your system.
  48. PenTools will not work with a standard mouse or another manufacturer's
  49. graphics tablet.
  50.  
  51. For Macintosh systems, your WACOM tablet must be using driver version
  52. 2.5.5 or later.
  53.  
  54. For IBM PC, PS/2 and compatibles, your WACOM tablet must be using
  55. driver version 2.45 or later.
  56.

  58. MINIMUM RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  59.  
  60. For Macintosh and compatible systems:
  61. *  PowerPC 604, 120 MHz or equivalently fast PPC processor
  62. *  16 MB RAM (or approximately 3 times your image file size)
  63. *  System 7.x
  64. *  16-bit color display or greater
  65. *  WACOM Mac Driver v2.5.5 or later
  66.  
  67. For IBM PCs and compatible systems:
  68. *  Intel Pentium, 133 MHz or greater
  69. *  16 MB RAM (or approximately 3 times your image file size)
  70. *  Windows 95 or NT 3.51 or later
  71. *  16-bit color display or greater
  72. *  WACOM PC Driver v2.45 or later
  73.

  75. SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY
  76.  
  77. PenTools are based on the Adobe Photoshop 3.0 standard for plug-ins,
  78. and have been tested for compatibility with the following applications.
  79.  
  80. For Macintosh and Mac OS systems:
  81. *  Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5 and 4.0
  82. *  Fractal Design Painter 4.0.3 and 5.0
  83.  
  84. For IBM PCs and compatible systems:
  85. *  Adobe Photoshop 4.0
  86. *  Fractal Design Painter 4.0.3 and 5.0
  87. *  Corel PhotoPaint 7.0
  88.  
  89. You may also find that PenTools are compatible with other graphics
  90. applications supporting the Adobe Photoshop 3.0 standard for plug-ins.

  93. INSTALLING PENTOOLS
  94.  
  95. PenTools filters are professional, pen-sensitive plug-in tools for
  96. image editing and creative design.
  97.  
  98. To install PenTools:
  99.  
  100. 1.  Locate the filters or other applicable plug-in folder for the
  101.     graphics application that you will be using PenTools in.
  102.  
  103. 2.  Drag the PenTools plug-ins file from its location (the area
  104.     where you downloaded it to, or from the diskette) to the 
  105.     plug-ins folder.  In some applications you may need to
  106.     configure your software preferences before the application
  107.     can identify a new plug-in.
  108.  
  109. 3.  Expand the PenTools plug-ins file by double-clicking on it.
  110.     The file will expand into eight filter files and the 
  111.     PENTOOLS.EXE file.
  112.  
  113.     For Windows 95 only: Copy the PENTOOLS.EXE file into your
  114.     WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.  Remember to delete this file if you ever
  115.     remove PenTools from your system.   
  116.  
  117. If you are unfamiliar with plug-in products, refer to the documentation
  118. that came with your graphics application for specific information on
  119. installing and using plug-ins.

  122. RUNNING PENTOOLS
  123.  
  124. Before running PenTools you must first open an image file in your
  125. PenTools-compatible graphics application.  The image you are working
  126. with must be in RGB or CMYK graphics mode.  You then access PenTools
  127. from the filter, effects, or other applicable menu of the application.
  128. PenTools effects are applied to the active layer of the selected
  129. portion of your image.
  130.  
  131. To open PenTools:
  132.  
  133. 1.  From the graphics applicationís filter or effects menu, select
  134.     PenTools.  Note that some applications may require you to first
  135.     select an image element before you can access the PenTools window.
  136.  
  137. 2.  From the PenTools menu, select the tool you want to use.  The
  138.     PenTools window for that tool will display.
  139.

  141. KNOWN BUGS AND WORKAROUNDS FOR PENTOOLS
  142.  
  143. Corel PhotoPaint: When using the 3D Chisel, Super Putty, or Virtual
  144. Airbrush in Corel PhotoPaint, the Repeat function (available from
  145. the Edit or Effects menus) does not repeat the effect or reload the
  146. plug-in.
  147.  
  148. Paint Shop Pro, V4.x: Launching PenTools will cause Paint Shop Pro, V4.x
  149. to crash with a fatal exception error.  We have not been able to verify
  150. if this program is fully compliant with the Photoshop 3.0 standard for
  151. plug-ins.

  154. PENTOOLS SUPPORT
  155.  
  156. Every effort has been made to ensure a quality product.  Due to the
  157. nature of plug-ins, PenTools is not compatible with every graphics
  158. application that supports the Photoshop 3.0 plug-in standard.

  172. WACOM PENTOOLS LICENSE AGREEMENT
  173.  
  174. This is a legal agreement between you, the end-user, and WACOM
  175. Technology Corporation (WACOM) covering your use of PenTools.  Be sure
  176. to read the following agreement before using the software.  IF YOU DO
  177. NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, DO NOT USE THE SOFTWARE AND
  178. DESTROY ALL COPIES OF IT.
  179.  
  180. This copyrighted software is distributed as freeware.  You may use
  181. this software without any charge and may distribute it to others.
  182. The software is owned by WACOM and is protected by United States
  183. copyright laws and international treaty provisions.  Therefore, you
  184. must treat the software like any other copyrighted material (e.g., a
  185. book or musical recording).
  186.  
  187. Commercial distribution of the software is restricted without the
  188. permission of WACOM.  Contact WACOM for details on obtaining a license
  189. to distribute this software.
  190.  
  191. You may not rent or lease the software, nor may you modify, adapt,
  192. translate, decompile, reverse assemble, disassemble or reverse engineer
  193. the software.  If you violate any part of this agreement, your right to
  194. use this software terminates automatically and you must then destroy
  195. all copies of this software in your possession.
  196.  
  197. The software and related documentation are provided "AS IS" and
  198. without warranty of any kind and WACOM expressly disclaims all other
  199. warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited to, the
  200. implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular
  201. purpose.  Under no circumstances shall WACOM be liable for any
  202. incidental, special or consequential damages that result from the use
  203. or inability to use the software or related documentation, even if
  204. WACOM has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

  206. In the event that any of the above limitations are held unenforceable,
  207. WACOM's liability for any damages to you or any party shall not exceed
  208. the purchase price you paid, regardless of the form of any claim.
  209. Furthermore, if for any reason a court of competent jurisdiction
  210. finds any provision of this Agreement, or portion thereof, to be
  211. unenforceable, that provision of the Agreement shall be enforced to the
  212. maximum extent permissible so as to effect the intent of the parties,
  213. and the remainder of this Agreement shall continue in full force and
  214. effect.  The software and documentation are provided with RESTRICTED
  215. RIGHTS.  Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject
  216. to restrictions as set forth in subdivision (b)(3)(ii) of The Rights
  217. in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at 252.227-7013.
